Camp Sherman Cabin

Architect: Geoffrey April

Project Type: Residential

Project Location: Camp Sherman, OR

Status: Design and Permitting

Set along the banks of the Metolius River in Camp Sherman, this historic cabin has remained in the same family for over 75 years—its origins dating back more than a century. The structure, largely untouched, carries the quiet patina of time.

The intent of the project is not to reinvent, but to carefully restore and extend the life of the cabin, preserving its character while making it livable for the next generation.

A series of interventions shape the work. A modest addition introduces a new bedroom, while an existing sunroom is enclosed to create a dining space anchored by a built-in banquette. The kitchen is reimagined with period-informed appliances and detailing, allowing it to feel consistent with the cabin’s early 20th-century origins. Interior wood surfaces are carefully refinished.

A new front porch extends toward the river framing views of the Metolius while maintaining a respectful presence within its highly visible setting.

The project is grounded in restraint and history. Every decision is guided by a singular goal: to create something that feels as though it has always been there, an authentic continuation of the cabin’s history.
