Set along a secluded street at the edge of Forest Park, the Upper Cascade Residence is a complete renovation of a 2,400-square-foot modern home—reimagined to balance privacy, openness, and a direct connection to the Pacific Northwest landscape.
Positioned among only a handful of neighboring homes, the property features a rare south-facing glass façade that opens into Forest Park. Reverie Architecture transformed the home into a modern Portland residence defined by clarity, warmth, and spatial flow.
The design centers on a reconfigured main living volume, introducing a double-height space and expansive kitchen anchored by a large, sculptural island. This central gathering space connects seamlessly to the surrounding landscape, creating a continuous relationship between interior and exterior.
With the street set above the home, privacy was carefully addressed through layered screening and calibrated openings, allowing the home to feel protected while remaining open to light and views.
Material selections reinforce a quiet, cohesive architecture. A new hemlock ceiling softens the overhead plane, while rift-sawn white oak cabinetry and wide-plank oak flooring establish warmth and continuity throughout. Bathrooms were fully reimagined with clean detailing and a restrained, modern palette.
The result is a modern Pacific Northwest home that feels both private and expansive—rooted in its setting and designed for everyday living.
