Set within the Tanager community in Bend, Oregon, this 4,500-square-foot, four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bath residence is conceived as a modern interpretation of a heritage estate—rooted in tradition, yet refined through a contemporary architectural lens.
The site presents a rare dual condition: expansive views across a meadow and lake to the west, and a quiet immersion within a grove of old-growth ponderosa pines to the east. The architecture responds by balancing openness and shelter—framing long views while anchoring the home into its natural surroundings.
The design is defined by a series of traditional gable forms, composed with restraint and clarity. These familiar volumes are paired with modern, minimal detailing and expansive glazing in the primary living spaces, creating a home that feels both timeless and distinctly of the Pacific Northwest.
Inside, the material palette is rich and deeply intentional—evoking an era of craftsmanship and permanence. Slab stone flooring, marble-wrapped openings, and curved custom casework introduce softness and precision throughout the interiors. The kitchen serves as a central gathering space, where sculptural forms and layered materials create both function and presence.
Throughout the home, materials are carefully calibrated to create a sense of warmth, depth, and continuity—bridging interior and exterior while reinforcing a quiet, elevated atmosphere.
The result is a modern Bend residence that carries the DNA of a heritage home—designed to feel enduring, grounded, and deeply connected to place. It is a home for gathering, for memory-making, and for living within the landscape of Central Oregon.
