Coastal A-Frame
Architect: Geoffrey April
Project Type: Residential
Project Location: Neskowin, OR
Status: Design and Permitting
This project reimagines a beloved A-frame on the Oregon coast as a generational retreat—expanding its footprint while preserving the authenticity of the original structure.
Set deep on the site, the existing home lacked privacy and usable outdoor space. A new mid-century modern–inspired addition is introduced toward the front yard, forming a protected courtyard between old and new. This outdoor room—anchored by a fire pit and dining area—becomes the heart of the home, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience.
The original A-frame is preserved as the primary living space, with its expressive post-and-beam structure fully revealed. The new addition houses a kitchen and dining area, allowing the A-frame to function as a dramatic, open gathering space oriented to the courtyard.
Materially, the design leans into a Nordic-inspired coastal palette—light, warm, and minimal—while a covered entry and loggia connection provide shelter and continuity between volumes.
The result is a modern A-frame renovation in Neskowin—designed for longevity, connection, and life along the Oregon coast.
